How to wash a football jersey without killing the crest

Most jerseys do not die — they get murdered by a wash machine on the wrong cycle. The crest cracks, the colors fade, and suddenly your match kit looks like it has lived three seasons in one monsoon.

Three rules cover 90% of the damage. One: always turn the jersey inside-out before it goes near water. The crest faces inward, the print stays sharp. Two: cold wash only. Hot water is what melts the sublimation, not detergent. Three: no tumble drying, no iron on the crest. Hang on a line out of direct sun and you are good.

Skip fabric softener too. Sounds counter-intuitive but it actually coats the moisture-wicking fibers and kills the breathable feel after about ten washes. Plain detergent, cold water, inside out, line dry. That is it.
